How the City of Fort Collins, Colorado Implemented a ‘First of Its Kind’ Facility’
In this #TLGredux, join AFI and the 2018 Innovation Award winning City of Fort Collins team on November 27 for a virtual live session about a program “created with the idea of encouraging long-term residents and students alike to work together as neighbors.” A first of its kind facility providing a dedicated liaison and place for police and students to interact, Campus West Connections takes collaboration, public input, and communication to a whole new level of providing excellent local government service.
Campus West Connections is a community-oriented policing concept that connects the community to organizations and services to increase the quality of life for community members. Campus West Connections includes Community Welcome, where Colorado State University students are connected with police, staff, and residents who instruct students on how to be good neighbors; Party Registration, which allows students to avoid tickets by registering parties in advance; a City of Fort Collins-CSU co-funded community liaison position; and the crowning achievement, the Campus West Connections substation, a collaborative meeting space and resource for nearby organizations, students, and police.
