Loudoun County Receives National Award for Innovation
Loudoun County has received a National Association of Counties (NACo) 2008 Achievement Award for innovative programming for the career development program implemented by the Loudoun County Office of the Assessor.
The goals of the career development program are to attract and retain high performing employees as well as establish the framework for succession planning. The program promotes continuous learning by providing training and development opportunities for employees that allow them to excel in their area of expertise and demonstrate a high level of service.
The Assessor's Office implemented the program – the second of its kind within the county government - with the assistance of the Human Resources (HR) Division. Earlier, HR staff worked with the Department of Building & Development to establish a career development program for zoning and land development planners. Loudoun County encourages all employees to actively initiate and participate in training and development activities that will enhance their skills, abilities and job with the county.
The National Association of Counties Achievement Awards recognize unique, innovative county programs in the United States in an effort to promote high-quality, efficient, responsible and responsive county government management and administration. NACo's membership totals more than 2,000 counties, representing over 80 percent of the nation's population.
