The Alliance will launch the third class of the Innovation Academy in the fall of 2015.  Capacity for the Innovation Academy is limited to ten organizations, so reserve your organization’s spot today by emailing Toni Shope at tshope@transformgov.org.  Hear from Rancho Cordova, CA on Why the Innovation Academy Matters.

Over the past eight years, the Alliance for Innovation and Arizona State University have collaborated to promote innovation in local government.  In 2013 we created and piloted a unique curriculum with six teams of participants from local governments across North America.  We have since graduated 25 organizations from the Innovation Academy. This tested framework provides support for developing an innovative project in your community and encourages participants to recommend ways to strengthen the culture of innovation in your organization.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the innovation process and how to integrate it into your organization.
  2. Build cross functional teams which have the capacity to address organizational and community issues.
  3. Expand organizational capacity for ongoing innovation.
  4. Learn more about your organizational culture and how to cultivate leadership.
  5. Undertake a new project which will make a contribution to the organization and/or address a community issue.
  6. As Innovation Academy alumni have the opportunity in the future to serve as a peer mentor and/or in innovation academy sessions.

Course Overview: The Innovation Academy is conducted virtually with the exception of the “Innovation Advance” session (optional see below).  The virtual sessions are interactive, consisting of team discussions and guest faculty sharing practical examples. Teams will be provided digital resources including homework assignments, suggested readings, and stimulating tools and exercises for team development.  Also two surveys are conducted during the course of the academy: Organization Innovation Assessment, and an Individual Assessment Survey.  Teams will be provided a summary and analysis of the survey results.  While participating in the curriculum, teams will undertake a new project that is meaningful to the team and have lasting impact on the organization.  Teams will be paired up with another participating organization to network and share ideas.

About the Optional Innovation Advance:  It starts at the top.  Organizations which cultivate and demonstrate an Innovation Leadership Culture are most effective in implementing and sustaining innovative solutions over time.  The Innovation Advance is a customized onsite 3-hour workshop for up to 20 leaders of Academy participant governments to support and encourage their organizations’ capacity for innovation.  The Innovation Advance is led by Katy Simon Holland, Innovation Academy Faculty.

Sign up Today by emailing Toni Shope, tshope@transformgov.org:  The Innovation Academy is limited to ten (10) organizations and is filled on first come first serve basis.  The cost to participate is $5000 Alliance for Innovation Members/$6500 NonMembers.  For a team of 10, that is only $500 per person for an Alliance Member!  This price includes the cost of the optional onsite Innovation Advance (travel costs for Katy Simon Holland, Faculty, will be additional).  Team members’ registration and travel to the Transforming Local Government Conference are also an optional additional cost at the participants’ discretion.
