For the eighth year in a row, Albemarle County, VA has been named among the top ten most technologically advanced, cutting edge county governments of its size in the U. S. by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo) in their 2010 Digital Counties Survey.

Washoe County, NV has implemented its new E-Payables program that increases the number of vendors paid through automation. Participating vendors now can receive their payments within one to three business days by accepting an electronic credit card payment from the County, and the County earns an annual rebate from the bank, based upon the volume of payables enrolled.

Both vendor contracts include rebate or incentive provisions that provide annual revenue to the county and FCPS general funds based on transaction activity during a 12-month period.

The Marana, AZ town council approved the Marana Job Creation Incentive Program (MJCIP), part of the Town’s continued efforts to create high-wage jobs. Under the MJCIP, non-retail companies that choose to locate or expand in Marana will be eligible to invest portions of the construction sales taxes generated from their facilities to other initiatives that will both lower their overall cost of construction and benefit the community.

The City of Novi, MI is a recipient of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) in the amount of $533,100 from the Department of Energy. The majority of the EECBG grant funds will be used to implement energy-reducing projects at City facilities. The projects will provide an estimated annual cost savings of $97,000.

Town of Cary remains the safest place in the state to live, work, and raise a family, according to a study by CQ Press, publisher of the annual “City Crime Rankings 2009-2010”. Cary is the highest-ranked municipality in North Carolina and in the Southeastern US among the nation’s safest cities overall, a designation that the Town has held for 11 years in a row.
The City of Murfreesboro, TN announces that it is taking steps to reclaim approximately 29 acres of the Old City Landfill for public recreational use. The reclamation process will involve installation of an active vacuum landfill gas collection system.

The Chancellor of UNC Charlotte Philip L. A major effort to help Long Beach, CA implement energy efficiency projects moved forward this week when the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the City of Long Beach $4.3 million as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG).

The City of Fort Worth Police Department, the Arlington Police Department and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s office have joined forces with the Safe City Commission’s Crime Stoppers to launch a new web-based crime-fighting tool. Residents can now submit a Crime Stopper tip through an anonymous live web chat.

The College of William & Mary and the City of Williamsburg, VA are forming a working group to continue to strengthen relations between campus and the community. The Williamsburg Neighborhood Relations Committee will include a College and a City representative, as well as a student, a landlord and a neighborhood resident. It will meet on a monthly basis to discuss concerns, assess progress and offer recommendations.

Residents of Palm Bay, FL can now access all of the City’s financial information online including expenditures, employee salaries and total revenue. On Tuesday, December 1st, OpenPalmBay was made available on the City’s website at www.palmbayflorida.org. OpenPalmBay is a newly created online interactive database that allows users to view and search the City’s financial information.

The Nissan Leaf, the first all-electric car slated for mass production, will be on display in Bellevue, WA. The event is sponsored by Puget Sound Energy, the Bellevue Collection and the C-7 New Energy Partnership, which includes Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Redmond, Renton and Sammamish.

Phoenix, AZ Public Library celebrates the grand opening of Open Book Café. The 2,000-square-foot café has indoor and patio seating, WiFi access and spaces for studying and relaxing. The café interior was designed by Phoenix architect Will Bruder.

Center for the Implementation of Public Policies Promoting Equity and Growth (CIPPEC), an independent Argentinean agency created to enhance government performance and accountability, invited Olathe, KS to participate in a national forum to help Argentinean governments learn increase performance. Olathe, KS is only one of two local US governments singled out to participate.

To put more focus on transportation and transit issues facing Durham and the Triangle region, Durham, NC City Manager Tom Bonfield has announced the creation of a new Department of Transportation for the City of Durham. The Transportation Department will house traffic operations, transportation engineering, transportation planning, and parking services.
