by City of Las Vegas, NV for the Alliance for Innovation

In January 2017, the city of Las Vegas became the first large municipality to achieve 100% renewable energy for its electric load for all retail accounts. Every public building, park, and streetlight in the city is now served by renewable energy. To accomplish this, the city invested in generating its own solar energy and engaged in a partnership with investor-owned utility NV Energy to receive energy produced by a solar facility. This innovation is allowing the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save taxpayer dollars, and build a more sustainable future for Las Vegas residents.
