The City has leveraged the Amazon Alexa platform to develop a skill to answer questions (posed using voice-activation) frequently asked by citizens, such as the location of city facilities, hours of operation or services offered. The intention externally is to provide accurate answers immediately without resorting to calling the City, visiting its website, logging into a program, or going to a City facility to ask someone in person. The aim internally is to reduce the need for staff time devoted to answering common queries, and furthermore, enable residents and visitors to get a reliable response from the comfort of their home. This is the first implementation of such a digital skill at a local municipal level, enabling the same level of service a citizen has come to expect when using their smart phone or making a transaction online.
