Police Community Relations: Life, Well Run Style

River Falls created the Coffee with a Cop event to improve police/community relations.

Life, Well Run has a wealth of case studies and inspiration when it comes to police and community relationships. As ICMA focuses on these relationships this month, we thought these stories were worth another read and/or view.

  • Pendleton, OR, founded a unique partnership between the libraries and police department that engages teenagers and cultivates better relationships.
  • River Falls, Wisc., features “Coffee with a Cop” to facilitate communication in a comfortable environment.
  • Sacramento, Calif., Traffic Investigator, Eric Poon, shares his love of the job in a Community Hero video.  “The most important thing about being a public worker is to know that you are working for the constituents and not for a paycheck,” he says.
  • Sergeant Saemi Kitchens, of Prince William, Va., would agree. “Even if you can help just one person, you know that you've made the biggest difference for that one person.”  She is another Community Hero featured on Life, Well Run.
  • Serving as crimes against persons detective has a personal meaning for Community Hero, Jacklyn Shaklee, in Ft. Collins, CO. "I like being that person who is supporting someone at the worst time in their life…to help them get closure."
