City Architect - Walnut Creek, CA

Salary Range: $89,858.86 - $109,220.28 Annually

This position will work under the direction of the Capital Investment Program Senior Engineer and perform professional architectural work concerning the construction, maintenance, and conversion of City buildings; and performs related work as required.

The candidate must be self-reliant and able to prepare complete sets of bid documents and plans for a variety of projects. The candidate will be required to use AutoCAD and/or Revit to prepare plans and details.

This position works with a variety of City and community members. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to balance the many demands while creating strong working relationships with the various project stakeholders. 

Representative Duties: The candidate will work closely with the City’s building maintenance staff in designing projects to preserve the City’s investment in their existing buildings. The majority of projects will be bid following the State of California Public Contracting laws.

Other work involves space planning for remodeling projects and construction cost estimating for alterations and new building construction.

The position requires knowledge of basic structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles, as well as knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and codes relevant to the design and construction of municipal and private buildings.

Qualifications Guidelines: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in architecture, architectural engineering, or a closely related field is required, and a minimum of three years of professional architectural experience including experience in design, space planning analysis, drafting, preparing cost estimates, and writing specifications; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record.

Possession of a valid license to practice Architecture as issued by the State of California Board of Architectural Examiners is required. LEED Accredited Professional certification is desirable.

IT Engineer II - SQL Database

City of Mesa, AZ

$67,371.20 - $90,979.20 Annually

The Information Technology (IT) Engineer II class is responsible for performing primary and secondary highly technical applications or production support for applications developed as a client server or web application and/or vendor purchased application solutions.  This assignment supports the implementation and expansion of a Citywide enterprise SQL Server architecture, including joining implementation teams and providing ongoing application support.

This class may perform technical and/or project leadership for a medium- to large-size project at one time or multiple small- to medium-scale projects concurrently.  This class is responsible for independently performing specialized work on more complex assignments such as identifying and documenting business process requirements and automation opportunities, assisting the customer in new project definition, client server/web development, testing, resolution of problems, system documentation, implementation, generation of reports, knowledge of data and databases, software/hardware configuration and integration, vendor evaluation and support of new technologies.  Responsibilities may include supervising and coordinating day-to-day activities of technical staff (by assignment).

The IT Engineer II class has regular customer interaction, which includes a wide range of assignments and project issues.  Employees in this class are required to participate in team on-call support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This class is FLSA exempt-computer professional. 

About the Ideal Candidate:  This position requires strong SQL Server database administration skills.  IT experience in a large application environment, data analysis, design and development, database tuning, troubleshooting and/or technical support.  Ability to readily understand business processes and assist customers with SQL based implementations and/or support.  Proficient with written and verbal communication, customer service and/or teamwork, project and/or technical leadership, report writing, and/or developing and maintaining technical documentation.  Familiarity with Visual Studio, DB2, Windows Server 2008, IP Networking, SQL Server Analysis Services, and/or SQL Server Integration Services is a plus.  Some experience in SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server Reporting Services is preferred.

Minimum Qualification(s) Required.  Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or a related field.  Considerable (3 - 5 years) computer systems experience in one or more of the following technical support areas:  SQL Server and/or SQL Database Administration.

The Information Technology (IT) Engineer II class is responsible for performing primary and secondary highly technical application or production support for applications developed as a client server or web application and/or vendor purchased application solutions.  This assignment assists in helping build and expand a newly focused concentration for Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Analytics at the City of Mesa.  The Business Intelligence Analyst supports areas Citywide by gathering requirements, performing data analysis, and developing associated reports or dashboard solutions that meet key business needs.  The position operates in both a strategic and tactical capacity, with high visibility.

Motivated self-starter who’s passionate about improving processes using data to help measure every aspect of City operations and services.  Ability to analyze and solve real world problems, and build metrics and business use cases around key city services.  The successful candidate demonstrates analytical thinking and superior organizational skills, interfaces with city leaders and department managers to gather requirements, and utilizes data analysis methodologies to answer key business questions.  Ability to own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, and dashboards that are timely, accurate, and actionable to improve decision making at all levels of the City.

Technical skills include:  strong experience in SAP Business Objects, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server Reporting Services. Experience in Crystal Reports, familiarity with Visual Studio, SQL Server Analysis Services, and/or SQL Server Integration Services preferred.  Background/experience using ETL tools, DTS, SAP Web Intelligence, Xcelsius dashboard design also a plus.  Highly proficient with written and verbal communication, customer service and/or teamwork, project and/or technical leadership, report writing and/or developing and maintaining technical documentation.

Job Overview

As a member of the Enterprise Security Services (ESS) team, this position serves at the expert level in the statewide perimeter security infrastructure that protects the state and local government network and allows uninterrupted traffic flow. This is an analyst position within the Security Operations Center (SOC) which monitors and manages all aspects of enterprise security in near real-time, from a single, centralized location. This position is expected to provide situational awareness of the threat landscape to the state network and prepare expert level analysis of risk mitigation. This position provides means for effective avoidance, control, or recovery from security incidents for support of high visibility, mission-critical services upon which the State business is dependant. This position may frequently be required to perform in a fast paced, high stress environment. The SOC is a central nerve of enterprise risk assessment, stakeholder communication, and reporting.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • At an expert technical level, identifies and resolves security infrastructure incidents which have the capacity to cause substantial and measurable impact to the State of Washington.
  • Uses expert security, network, and forensic knowledge to provide problem resolution and detailed after action root cause analysis and recommendation.
  • Actively monitors multiple complex security infrastructure and critical service components protecting the state governmental network for service health and defense posture from data breach, disruption, or theft.
  • Develops, writes, and conducts functional exercises of the enterprise security incident response plan.
  • Provides expert consultation of large-scale projects and enterprise systems for compliance with regulatory security standards through a design review process. Performs functional audits of critical, complex business services to ensure standards are being met; reporting and tracking deviations.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience with security controls such as SIEM, IDS, Firewall, VPN, or Proxies.
  • 3 years experience with network/security troubleshooting at an advanced level (minimum of second tier level) including demonstrated ability to quickly, accurately and independently identify and resolve incidents. 
  • 2 years experience with a large customer or service provider network.
  • 2 years experience with carrier-class hardware internetworking providing customer technical support, ongoing maintenance, and configuration administration.
  • 1 year experience with network management and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with security assessment methods and penetration testing techniques.
  • Knowledge of security related legislation/regulations with emphasis on PCI, IRS-FTI, CJIS, and privacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including group presentations).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in computer science or related field.
  • 4 years of IT consulting or analysis.
  • 2 years of experience in large, high volume 24x7 Network Operations Center.
  • 2 years of experience with managing network infrastructure devices such as routers and switches.
