Assistant City Engineer - Fort lauderdale, FL

Salary Range: $76,294.40 - $110,468.80 Annually

The Position:

This is highly responsible managerial, administrative, and professional engineering work of considerable difficulty planning, directing, analyzing, and coordinating engineering design, construction, and construction inspection in either right-of-way areas or facilities in the Public Services Department.  As assigned, work also includes supervisory work in the preparation of architectural plans, design, and specifications for City buildings and structures.

Under general direction, both directly and through subordinate management personnel and technical consultants, the employee plans, directs, supervises, coordinates, and implements a wide variety of municipal engineering and architectural programs and projects.  The employee will have considerable program management, design, and construction administration responsibility.   The employee advises the City Commission, City Manager, Department Director, other City officials, neighborhood representatives and residents on the status of, and important issues associated with City and other agency projects.

Under general direction, the employee performs complex assignments requiring extensive initiative and independent judgment in assuring that activities meet high standards of service and are performed with maximum effective use of resources; that engineering and architectural functions are accomplished in accordance with appropriate technical standards; and that activities are performed in consistent accord with City policy directives.  Work is reviewed by an administrative superior and the Department Director at conferences, through study of reports submitted, by direct observation, and by the degree of achievement of goals, objectives, and work plans.

The Requirements:

  1. Have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other appropriate engineering discipline, preferably with graduate work in engineering and public administration.
  2. Have at least five (5) years professional municipal engineering experience, which included supervisory and managerial responsibilities.
  3. Be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, or be registered in another state and obtain Florida registration within one (1) year from the date of appointment.

Note:  The required license must be kept current to continue employment in this class.

The Examination and How to Apply:   

Depending on the number of applications and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests:  Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method.  Applicants must attain a minimum of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify.  All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.

City Engineer - Fort Collins, CO

The City of Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking candidates with proven leadership and strong communication skills for the position of City Engineer. This position will oversee and direct Engineering development review, capital project design and construction, right of way management and surveying. IT Engineer II (GIS/CMMS) - Mesa, AZ

Salary Range: $68,744.00 - $92,830.40 Annually

DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:

The Information Technology (IT) Engineer II class is responsible for performing primary and secondary highly technical application or production support for applications developed as a client server or web application and/or vendor purchased application solutions.  This assignment supports the development of enterprise GIS (Geographic Information Systems) solutions, with a primary focus on web-based applications and interactive maps for municipal and City business operations.  Position requires business analyst skills along with an ability to develop customized application processes, utilizing a variety of ESRI-based GIS and web technologies, including mobile solutions.  Roles may include analysis, design, engineering, development, configuration, programming, implementation and providing ongoing application support to a host of desktop, web, or mobile GIS and CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management Systems) applications.

This class may perform technical and/or project leadership for a medium- to large-size project at one time or multiple small- to medium-scale projects concurrently.  This class is responsible for independently performing specialized work on more complex assignments such as identifying and documenting business process requirements and automation opportunities, assisting the customer in new project definition, client server/web development, testing, resolution of problems, system documentation, implementation, generation of reports, knowledge of data and databases, software/hardware configuration and integration, vendor evaluation and support of new technologies.  Responsibilities may include supervising and coordinating day-to-day activities of technical staff (by assignment). The IT Engineer II class has regular customer interaction, which includes a wide range of assignments and project issues.  Employees in this class are required to participate in team on-call support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This class is FLSA exempt-computer professional.  

About the Ideal Candidate:

Strong experience in application development and web technologies, including Visual Studio (C# and Silverlight), JavaScript, HTML (5), and Flash Builder.  IT experience with GIS and/or CMMS applications.  Ability to readily understand business processes and assist customers with GIS, CMMS, web or mobile implementations and support.  Proficient with written and verbal communications, customer service, teamwork, project and technical leadership, report writing, and developing and maintaining technical documentation.  Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Server (9.3.1 or 10.0), ArcGIS Desktop (10.0), ArcSDE, emerging ESRI technologies, ArcObjects, Azteca Cityworks, Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, Flash Builder, Visual Studio (2008 – 2010), Oracle, and SQL Server 2008 a plus.  Some experience in ESRI ArcGIS is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

Minimum Qualification(s) Required.  Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or a related field.  Considerable (3 - 5 years) experience in one or more of the following:  Web Development /Support and/or Application Programming/Support.

Job Overview

As a member of the Enterprise Security Services (ESS) team, this position serves at the expert level in the statewide perimeter security infrastructure that protects the state and local government network and allows uninterrupted traffic flow. This is an analyst position within the Security Operations Center (SOC) which monitors and manages all aspects of enterprise security in near real-time, from a single, centralized location. This position is expected to provide situational awareness of the threat landscape to the state network and prepare expert level analysis of risk mitigation. This position provides means for effective avoidance, control, or recovery from security incidents for support of high visibility, mission-critical services upon which the State business is dependant. This position may frequently be required to perform in a fast paced, high stress environment. The SOC is a central nerve of enterprise risk assessment, stakeholder communication, and reporting. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • At an expert technical level, identifies and resolves security infrastructure incidents which have the capacity to cause substantial and measurable impact to the State of Washington.
  • Uses expert security, network, and forensic knowledge to provide problem resolution and detailed after action root cause analysis and recommendation.
  • Actively monitors multiple complex security infrastructure and critical service components protecting the state governmental network for service health and defense posture from data breach, disruption, or theft.
  • Develops, writes, and conducts functional exercises of the enterprise security incident response plan.
  • Provides expert consultation of large-scale projects and enterprise systems for compliance with regulatory security standards through a design review process. Performs functional audits of critical, complex business services to ensure standards are being met; reporting and tracking deviations.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience with security controls such as SIEM, IDS, Firewall, VPN, or Proxies.
  • 3 years experience with network/security troubleshooting at an advanced level (minimum of second tier level) including demonstrated ability to quickly, accurately and independently identify and resolve incidents. 
  • 2 years experience with a large customer or service provider network.
  • 2 years experience with carrier-class hardware internetworking providing customer technical support, ongoing maintenance, and configuration administration.
  • 1 year experience with network management and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with security assessment methods and penetration testing techniques.
  • Knowledge of security related legislation/regulations with emphasis on PCI, IRS-FTI, CJIS, and privacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including group presentations).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in computer science or related field.
  • 4 years of IT consulting or analysis.
  • 2 years of experience in large, high volume 24x7 Network Operations Center.
  • 2 years of experience with managing network infrastructure devices such as routers and switches.
