Nurse Administrator (Assistant Director Patient Care Services) - Fairfax County, VA

Salary Range: $69,109 to $115,182  (Grade S30)

The Health Department of Fairfax County is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote and protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' access to health services and information. The department operates public health clinics, community health care centers and adult day health care centers throughout the county. In addition, the department is responsible for communicable disease surveillance, prevention and control measures and activation of an emergency response in the event of a public health threat. To continue to excel in the quality of services it provides, the Health Department looks to enhance its stellar employee base with an innovative and creative leader to fill the Assistant Director of Patient Care Services position.

Reporting to the Director of Patient Care Services, this position:

• Plans, develops, coordinates and implements public health services across the Division of Patient Care Services and within assigned programmatic areas that includes communicable disease, epidemiology, bioterrorism, and homeless healthcare services;  
• Assists with providing leadership to ensure attainment of strategic objectives and the delivery of quality, health care services and other related lines of business;
• Directs, manages and assists with short and long-term planning  that  establishes goals, objectives, and strategies  to ensure quality public health services;    
• Develops systems to monitor, evaluate and maximize service utilization;
• Establishes and monitors program budgets;  
• Is accountable to county, state and federal agencies, in addition to other external regulatory agencies, for maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and standards; and
• Serves as a resource to leadership.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing with a master's degree in nursing, public health, health care administration, nursing administration, or nurse practitioner; plus six years of full-time equivalent post-licensure experience, four of which were in a public health setting and include two years in a supervisory capacity.

Special Requirements: Possession of current license to practice as registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications: Strategic programmatic design, implementation and evaluation expertise. Strong knowledge of communicable diseases, and epidemiology. Experience in team and coalition building. Considerable experience working with community groups and diverse populations. Experience in public health emergency preparedness and response; and excellent written and oral communication skills.
