Vestavia Hills Gives Residents New Way to Be Heard via Online Forum

The city of Vestavia Hills, AL, has given its residents an easier way to voice their opinions with an online forum—appropriately named Vestavia Hills Listens.

While the community tends to be engaged with city happenings, staff wanted an online forum that would add more transparency and structure to the civic process. They’ve delivered that by partnering with Peak Democracy, a nonpartisan company that moderates the forum to ensure the discussion stays civil, on topic and within legal bounds.
So far, residents are overwhelmingly supportive of the forum, which has a 97 percent approval rating based on their feedback.

“I feel valued as a Vestavia Hills citizen and that my opinion really does matter,” writes one resident. “Thank you for listening! And thank you for helping to improve Vestavia Hills!”

Vestavia Hills Listens is now asking the public to weigh-in on council priorities and on a master plan for community spaces. The online forum can be viewed at http://vhal.org/vestavia-hills-listens/.
