We are all working to make our communities more livable, but what does that mean exactly?
In 2009, the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development established six principles for livable communities.
ICMA is now part of an intergovernmental adivsory committee, lead by our sister organization, the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC), that is looking at this very issue. NARC is studying livability and the program elements that help create more livable communities. As part of this effort, Erika Young from NARC will be leading an interactive discussion today on how we can better define livability. The session begins at 12:30 pm in Room 202B on the second level.
As an added bonus, this session is eligible for AICP-CM credits.
