ICYMI February 16th-20th

Another week in 2015 is in the books.  That means it’s time for me to highlight what went on in the Knowledge Network this past week.  Check out this list of diverse content newly added to the Knowledge Network:

  1. Read this blog post to understand local government cases on the docket of the U.S. Supreme Court.
  2. Some great questions were proposed this past week.  Check them out here and try your hand at answering some.
  3. Inspired by the tax season, I wrote this blog post on how local governments are improving their tax collection system and growing their tax base.
  4. ICMA is reaching out to volunteers for its Strategic Planning Task Force. The deadline is Monday March 2.
  5. Governing Magazine takes a look at the President's budget proposal and how it would affect programs impacting state and local government.
  6. Read this PM magazine article on how to navigate FEMA procedures to collect disaster recovery costs.
  7. Another great article on Black History Month was posted recently.  This one centers on how the profession is continually progressing.
  8. What are the “Next Big Things” facing local governments in the next 20-50 years? Alliance for Innovation is conducting a study to identify them.
  9. This document outlines the mobile workshop proposals for Brownfields 2015. If you’re interested in Brownfields 2015, check out their blog.
  10. A great read is “Get the Facts on the Fiscal Condition of State and Local Governments.” This article contains some quick reference facts from the “State and Local Fiscal Facts 2015” document.
