ICMA's Third Annual Video Contest is underway!

Are you interested in a career in local government (or are currently working in local government) and would like an opportunity to tell the world just how dedicated and hard working you and your colleagues are? 

You may have seen a recent Saturday Night Live skit which portrayed government employees (on the state and local level) as lazy, unskilled, and unhelpful. We at ICMA know that this is far from true, and we would like your help spreading the message that local government employees are hard working professionals who have their community's best interests in mind.

We're asking you to help spread the message that you're committed to local government excellence through a video response to the sketch below:

contest Requirements

• Create a video (no longer than five minutes in length) which responds to the SNL skit above.
• Your video should be in one of the following formats: QuickTime .MOV, Windows .AVI, or .MPG
• Submissions will be accepted until Friday, September 17, 2010.

• For inspiration, check out the 2008 Video Contest entrants, and the 2009 Video Contest entrants.  Do note however that the 2008 and 2009 contests had different themes and requirements.

• First Prize: Complimentary registration to ICMA's 96th Annual Conference in San Jose, CA, plus a $1,200 travel stipend.

In addition to being eligible for the first, second, and third places prizes, all qualifying submissions will receive a free ICMA Membership*.

* The free one-year membership is available to any nonmember student, local government intern, or entry- to mid-management local government staff (below department head). Submitters not qualifying for the free membership may transfer their free membership to a colleague. Student/intern membership is valued at $25; entry- to mid-management local government affiliate membership is valued at $150.
