What you will be doing
Under general direction of the Planning Manager/Deputy Director of Planning and Development, processes land use applications and annexation requests pursuant to the Town code, and prepares detailed analysis reports during the development review process. Assists in the preparation of planning documents for the Town. Interacts with the public, land owners, developers, other staff, Planning Commission, the Board of Trustees, and other Advisory Boards, to assist in the understanding and advise in the use of the Comprehensive Plan, and Municipal Code within the Town of Erie.

The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time.•Compiles and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use, and prepares graphic and narrative reports on data.Presents staff reports and recommendations.
•Reviews and evaluates major, complex project proposals including: ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, policies and guidelines.
•Processes and reviews Land Use Applications. Coordinates schedules, staff, and referral agency for multi-department reviews.
•Acts as liaison with other public and private agencies. Confers with property owners and developers to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses.
•May negotiate with applicants and mediates conflicts, documents agreements, and monitors project implementation.
•Participates in long range planning. Assists in preparation of planning documents for the Town, including but not limited to, the Town Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code and Design Guidelines.
•Recommends governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, and housing and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.
•Reviews and evaluates proposals for annexation, site planning, plats, parks and recreation designs, and other land use applications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required: •Considerable knowledge of planning programs and processes.
•Knowledge of standard office and planning software.
•Strong knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans.
•Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, property owners, supervisors, employees and the general public. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
•Ability to research, prepare and analyze technical reports, including the ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Ability to establish effective working relationships with other planners, developers, and other private and public agencies.
•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
•Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
•Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
•Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or a closely related field required.
•Master's degree in urban or regional planning preferred.
•Two years of professional planning experience.
•A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
•Certification from American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
