This is responsible, professional management work including planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating all activities of the Public Works Department.
The Public Works Director directs all solid waste collection/disposal, Traffic Engineering operations, Engineering Services, sewer planning, and streets/drainage system construction and maintenance activities under the direction of the City Manager. This position requires close cooperation with other operating and service departments in the City as well as county, state and federal regulatory authorities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by the U. S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Civil Engineering or related field, and
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative and managerial experience in the operation of a municipal government department to include any combination of solid waste collection and disposal; streets and storm drainage design, construction, and maintenance; traffic engineering design, operation and maintenance; engineering design and inspection; wastewater collection system design and rehabilitation; and surveying.
Ten (10) years of recent experience providing similar consulting services to a municipality; in the design, operation, and maintenance of the above stated areas of responsibility.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any state with the ability to obtain registration in the State of Alabama within one (1) year.
Possession of a valid operator driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
