Located in the southwest portion of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, Goodyear has been the recipient of much of the Valley’s recent growth. Goodyear was the sixth fastest growing city in the nation in 2013 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Goodyear’s current population of nearly 80,000 is predicted to exceed 700,000 by the year 2050. Scenic mountain views, desert vistas, wide open spaces, golf courses, lakes and parks have attracted residents who are among the most affluent and best educated in the state.

Goodyear seeks a new City Manager to lead an organization of 572 full-time employees with a total FY2018 budget of $319 million. The City Manager directly supervises two Deputy City Managers, who together oversee the following departments: Development Services, Engineering, Fire, Parks and Recreation, Police, City Clerk, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services, and Public Works. Economic Development and Finance both report to the City Manager. The City Manager’s office is comprised of the City Manager plus staff, including two Deputy City Managers, Assistant to the City Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager, Communications Manager, Government Relations Manager, and Executive Assistant.

The ideal candidate is a strongly committed individual and strong generalist local government professional who has a positive record of achievement and who exhibits a history of building constructive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. He or she will actively solicit good ideas from all levels of the organization and will have the ability to earn respect and to foster innovative solutions to city problems through sound administrative practices and outstanding strategic planning skills. The city seeks candidates who are seasoned, experienced local government executives with significant experience in comparable, or larger communities, especially those that have experienced/are experiencing significant growth. A Bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree desirable.
