This executive level Director position acts as the City of Olympia's economic development liaison, seeking ways to expand Olympia's tax base, enhance our revenue capacity in a manner consistent with our Comprehensive Plan and City goals and policies.
The Director is responsible for:
Developing and implementing the City's economic development strategy.
Creating a positive image for the City to employers, developers, and businesses.
Planning, organizing, and performing activities to enhance economic development activity and development opportunities.
Making and implementing recommendations for economic development, small business assistance, incentive programs, and permitting for City and regional policy makers.
Serving as the City's main point of contact with regional economic development partners including the Thurston Economic Development Council, the Olympia Downtown Association, the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Olympia.
Assisting in the implementation of the City's award winning Downtown Strategy.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of work experience and education that allows the applicant to demonstrate an understanding of economic development, small business administration and funding strategies, especially in the public sector; commercial property development; real estate and market analysis; and tourism development.
Preferred educational experience includes a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in economics, marketing, business or public administration, or urban and regional planning.
Preferred professional experience includes a minimum of four (4) years in commercial/industrial real estate or brokerage; economic development, urban and regional planning; policy development, or related field. Experience in private sector economic development highly desirable.
Certified Economic Developer designation from the International Economic Development Council.
