The Institute for Local Government and the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative have recognized the City of Carlsbad with the Beacon Award, part of a statewide initiative that promotes leadership in sustainability.

The award was presented Sept. 14 in Sacramento as part of the League of California Cities’ annual conference.
The Beacon Program provides a framework for local governments to share best practices that create healthier, more vibrant and sustainable communities. The program honors voluntary efforts by local governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy and adopt policies that promote sustainability. The program is sponsored by the Institute for Local Government, an organization that promotes good government at the local level with practical, impartial and easy-to-use resources for California communities; and the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative, an alliance to help cities and counties reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy.
