The Hennepin County Minnesota recently finished their Step To It challenge for the month of May. During the Step to it challenge, participants tracked more than 1.1 billion steps, exceeding last year’s count step by more than 129 million. Step to it is an activity challenge that motivates people of all ages and abilities to become more active during the month of May. Residents can convert a variety of activities to steps, such as running, cycling, dancing and manual wheel chair use. Residents, communities and schools engage in friendly competition to win prizes and awards.
More than 5,500 people living and working in 24 metro area communities took steps toward a healthier lifestyle during the physical activity challenge this May.

The innovative challenge allows for the community, schools, and individuals across the county to increase their activity level. They become more involved in the local activities promoted on the website, such as the county’s Mother’s Day 5K or their Walk for Animals event, as well as they are promoting public health goals and initiatives for the county.
