ICMA and Our LGMF Partners Thank the 2016 LGMF Hosts
Say "hello' to the 2016 LGMFs and "thank you!" to their hosts and mentors!
4 April 2017
Thank you hosts and mentors for investing in tomorrow's local government managers. The commitment to host a Fellow is a steep one. Hosts create and fund an entry-level management position, design a rigorous scope of work (based on rotations or single-office placement), support professional development opportunities, and mentor the Fellow for one to two years.
But while the commitment is steep, the returns are great. Since the pilot year, seven alumni Fellows have been hired as managers with many more in senior stepping-stone positions. A directory of current and alumni Fellows is available at icma.org/lgmf under the Become a Fellow menu.
The 2016 Fellows are finishing up their first year, preparing to find full-time positions, or renewing for a second year in their current Fellowship positions. Read alumni Fellow testimonials online to learn about the program in their own words.
A "hosted position" includes second-year Fellows, as that is an equal (if not greater) financial and mentoring commitment by the host government.
The Local Government Management Fellowship, launched in 2004 by ICMA, NASPAA, NFBPA IHN, and joined in 2015 by WLG, has grown steadily since the pilot year, and we have placed our outstanding 2016 candidates in local governments nationwide.
Local governments interested in hosting a Fellow can find information on hosting or sharing a Fellow at icma.org/lgmf or email ICMA at email@example.com. The recruitment process for the 2017 Fellowship is ongoing and will close in August 2017 (or when all our finalists find hosts!).
