November, 2017

  • Garrey Curry, Jr., deputy administrator for Gloucester County, has been appointed Rappahannock County administrator effective January 1st.
  • Laura Fitzpatrick, assistant city manager for Hampton, has been appointed deputy city manager for Chesapeake, effective December 11th.

October, 2017

  • Todd Walters, assistant town engineer for Christiansburg, has been appointed manager for the town of New Market effective November 6th.
  • Valmarie Turner, community services director for Seminole County, FL, has been appointed assistant administrator for Loudoun County.
  • Brian Henshaw, former town manager for Haymarket, has been appointed planning and zoning director for Shenandoah County.

September, 2017

  • Peter Huber, retired Pulaski County administrator, has been appointed interim manager for the town of Amherst.
  • Jeffrey Richardson, administrator for Cleveland County, NC since 2013, has been appointed Albemarle County administrator effective November 6.
  • Danny Davis, Purcellville assistant town manager, has been appointed president of One Loudoun center, a senior living facility.

August, 2017

  • John Anzivino, senior vice president with Springsted Inc., and a former Virginia town manager and county administrator, announced his retirement.
  • Bob Cowell, deputy city manager for Amarillo, Texas, has been appointed city manager for Roanoke.
  • Mark Haley, city manager for Hopewell, announced his retirement effective September 1.
  • Bart Warner, interim town manager for Bedford, has been appointed manager there.
  • Jack Hobbs, Amherst town manager since 1992, has been appointed Madison County administrator.
  • Val Foulds, town manager for Colonial Beach since 2008, was terminated.
  • Bruce Bentley, Washington County administrator from 1990 to 1995, passed away at the age of 85.
  • Scott Loggan, former Scott County administrator, is battling multiple myeloma (bone cancer).
  • Charles Dane, assistant city manager for Hopewell, has been appointed interim manager there. 

July, 2017

  • Tabitha Crowder, Bristol city manager since June, 2014, was terminated.  Randy Eads, Bristol city attorney, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Brenda Garton, former Frederick County administrator, has been appointed interim administrator for Rappahannock County.
  • Rob Lohr, former town manager for Purcellville, has signed on with the Berkley Group.
  • Gary Shanaberger, business analyst for the Longwood Small Business Development Center, has been appointed town manager for Appomattox effective August 1.
  • Kirk Kincannon, executive director of the Fairfax County Park Authority, has been named interim county executive for Fairfax County beginning September 16th, following the retirement of Ed Long the prior day.

June, 2017

  • Charlie Hoke, town manager for Luray since 2013, and previously, director of utilities, announced his retirement effective July 31st.
  • Joseph Waltz, interim town manager and electric utilities director for Front Royal, has been named town manager there.
  • Mike Taylor, Saltville town manager since 2010, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer.
  • Jim Bourey, former Newport News city manager, has joined the firm of McGill Associates.
  • Brenda Garton, Frederick County administrator since May, 2015, resigned.
  • Debbie Keyser, Rappahannock County administrator since May, 2016, resigned.
  • Kris Tierney, assistant county administrator for Frederick County since 2000, and deputy administrator since 2016, has been appointed interim administrator there.
  • William L. (Bill) Shepley, an executive consultant to hospitals and the healthcare industry, has been appointed Grayson County administrator, effective July 10.
  • Aretha Ferrell-Benavides, city manager for Glenn Heights, Texas, has been appointed Petersburg city manager.
  • Gary Shanaberger, a business analyst at Longwood University’s Small Business Development Center, has been appointed manager for the town of Appomattox.
  • Douglas L. Smith, interim city manager for Norfolk since December, 2016, has been appointed manager there.
  • William H. (Bill) Ashton II, interim town manager for Herndon since February, has been appointed manager there.

May, 2017

  • Zach Trogdon, Charles City County administrator since 2012, has been appointed executive director of the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority effective mid-June.
  • Ed Long, Fairfax County executive since 2012, and a County employee for almost 40 years, announced his retirement effective September 15.
  • Wyatt Pearson, planning and zoning administrator for the town of Strasburg since 2014, has been appointed manager there.
  • Lee Catlin, assistant executive for Albemarle County, and a 25 year county employee, has announced her retirement effective November 1.
  • Alex Vanegas, public works director for the town of Purcellville, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Robert (Rob) Ritter, former Chincoteague town manager, has been appointed manager for the town of Dumfries effective May 15.
  • Laszlo Palko, Lovettsville town manager for the past 2.5 years, has been appointed city manager for Manassas Park.

April, 2017

  • A. Reese Peck, former Essex County administrator, has been appointed Bowling Green town manager.
  • Ryan Spitzer, Strasburg town manager, has announced that he is leaving that post effective May 3 to become town manager for Pineville, NC.
  • Steve Biggs, Christiansburg town manager since July, 2016, died of a self-inflicted wound. Assistant town manager Randy Wingfield, has been appointed interim town manager.
  • Charlie Kolakowski, town manager for Bedford for the past 11 years, has been appointed Northampton County administrator, effective May 22.
  • Bart Warner, assistant town manager for Bedford, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Rob Lohr, Purcellville town manager for the past 25 years, has announced that he will retire from that post effective July 1.
  • Michael Mason, finance director and acting administrator for Accomack County, has been appointed administrator there.

March, 2017

  • Jim Bourey, city manager for Newport News since 2013, resigned. Cindy Rohlf, assistant city manager, was appointed acting city manager.
  • Sanford (Sandy) Wanner, retired James City County administrator, and veteran of multiple interim assignments, has been appointed interim executive director for the Newport News/Williamsburg Airport Commission.
  • Diane Hyatt, 30 year Roanoke County employee, including assistant administrator from 2009 until her retirement in 2012, passed away.
  • Dan Campbell, Madison County administrator, has announced his intention to retire effective September 1.
  • Cindy Rohlf, acting city manager for Newport News,  has been appointed city manager there.
  • Ted Voorhees, former Fayetteville, NC city manager, has been appointed Powhatan County administrator.

February, 2017

  • William (Bill) O'Brien, retired, long-time Rockingham County administrator, and current Virginia Resources Authority chairman, passed away.
  • Mark Reeter, former Bedford County and Washington County administrator, has been appointed King William County administrator, effective March 1.
  • Kurt Hodgen, city manager for Harrisonburg since 2007, has announced his retirement, effective October 31.
  • Chris Morrill, city manager for Roanoke since 2010, is leaving that post to become executive director of the Government Finance Officers Association, effective May 1.

January, 2017

  • John Rowe, former Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Emporia city manager, has been sworn in as mayor of Portsmouth.
  • Art Anselene, town manager for Herndon since 2007, and, prior to that, parks and recreation director for 30 years, has announced his retirement effective February 28.
  • Dennis Carney, planning and zoning administrator for the town of Windsor, has been appointed manager/clerk for the town of Keysville.  He is Keysville's first town manager.
  • Jim Chandler, assistant city manager for Caribou, Maine, has been appointed deputy town manager for public works for the town of Amherst.
  • Jack Berry, former Hanover County administrator, CEO for Venture Richmond, and Richmond mayoral candidate, has been appointed interim assistant city manager for Petersburg.
  • Bill Ashton, information technology director for the town of Herndon, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Robert (Bob) O'Neill, former ICMA executive director, Fairfax County executive, and Hampton city manager, has joined Davenport & Company.
  • Joshua Farrar, deputy manager and interim manager for the town of Ashland, has been appointed manager there.
  • Clarence Monday, recently retired administrator for Pittsylvania County, has been appointed interim manager for the town of Appomattox.
  • Douglas Smith, city manager for Margate, Florida, has been appointed city manager for Colonial Heights, effective in March.
  • Rebecca "Becky" Dickson, former deputy administrator for Chesterfield County and administrator for Goochland County, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.
  • Doug Fawcett, Fredericksburg's director of public works since 1997, and a CAO in several localities prior to that, has been appointed assistant city manager there.
  • Ande Banks, acting deputy city manager for Harrisonburg the past 7 months, has been appointed deputy manager there.

December, 2016

  • John H. Hughes IV,  Children's Services Act coordinator for the city of Lynchburg, has been appointed assistant city manager there.
  • Neiman Young, currently a company commander for the US Army at Ft. Bragg, NC, has been appointed administrator for King George County.
  • Tom Foley, Albemarle County executive since 2011, and deputy there for 11 years, has been appointed Stafford County administrator, effective February 1, 2017.  Doug Walker, deputy county executive, has been appointed interim executive effective that same date.
  • Steve Miner, Accomack County administrator since 2004, has announced his retirement from public service after 32 years, effective January 31, 2017, and his plans to join a private consulting firm.
  • Timothy Wilson, former town manager for South Boston, has been appointed Essex County administrator.
  • Sabrina Joy-Hogg, chief deputy city manager for Norfolk since 2011, has been appointed deputy city manager for Charlotte, NC.
  • Mike Mason, director of finance for Accomack County, has been appointed acting administrator effective February 1, 2017.

November, 2016

  • Steve Burke, Front Royal town manager since 2011, has been appointed public works director for the city of Manassas, effective November 28.
  • Ernie Hoch, former Culpeper County administrator, has joined Jarrell Properties, Inc., a real estate development company.
  • Robert Ritter, town manager for Chincoteague for the past 10 years, was terminated.
  • Kimberly Murray, economic development director for Winchester, has been appointed town manager for Haymarket.
  • Joseph Waltz, energy services director for the town of Front Royal, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Deborah Davis, Sussex County administrator, resigned.  Vandy V. Jones, III, deputy county administrator, is serving as interim administrator.
  • David M. Smitherman, senior consultant with Bear Strategies, and former city manager for Elizabethtown, NC, has been appointed administrator for Pittsylvania County, effective January, 2017.
  • Pat Weiler, Powhatan County administrator since February,2013, has announced her retirement, effective May 1, 2017.
  • Angela A. Lawrence, a former mayor of Ashland, VA, and executive director for several non-profits, has been appointed town manager for Chase City.

October, 2016

  • Joseph Quesenberry, director of tourism and marketing for Patrick County, has been appointed town manager for Warsaw effective November 7.
  • Christopher Martino, deputy executive and currently interim executive for Prince William County, has been appointed county executive there.
  • Kim Alexander, city manager for Manassas Park, stepped down from that post.  John Evans, police chief, is serving as acting manager.
  • Steve Cover, fire chief for Virginia Beach for the past nine years, has been appointed deputy city manager there.
  • Jonathan Sweet, Grayson County administrator, has been appointed Pulaski County administrator effective January 16.
  • Marcus Jones, Norfolk city manager since 2010, has been appointed city manager for Charlotte, NC.
  • Mandy Belyea, finance director for Shenandoah County since 2014, has been appointed deputy manager for the town of Woodstock.
  • Dironna Moore Belton, interim city manager for Petersburg, has returned to her former post heading up the area's transit system, and Tom L. Tyrrell, a financial consultant from Connecticut, has been installed as interim city manager by the Robert Bobb Group, consultant to the city.

 September, 2016

  • Sanford "Sandy" Wanner, retired James City County administrator and multiple interim manager, has been appointed interim administrator for King William County.
  • Scott Zaremba, human resources director for Chesterfield County, has been appointed deputy county administrator for management services there.
  • Stephen L. Lawson, parks and beautiful director for the consolidated governments of Bibb County and Macon, Georgia, has been appointed town manager for Big Stone Gap.
  • Steven B. Truitt, a certified project management professional and founder of several companies, has been appointed administrator for Carroll County, effective September 26.
  • Stephen Bear, assistant administrator for Wythe County, has been appointed administrator there, effective October 3rd.  Cellell Dalton, long time Wythe County administrator, steps down September 30.
  • Ronald H. Williams, Jr., deputy city manager for Norfolk, has been appointed deputy city manager for economic vitality for Virginia Beach.

August, 2016

  • John G. Kines, Jr., retired Prince George County administrator, has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Social Services.  John recently completed 12 years service as a member of the Virginia Commission on Local Government.
  • Glen "Skip" Skinner, executive director of the LENOWISCO planning district commission, retired.  Duane Miller, deputy director, has been promoted to executive director.
  • Thomas Mattis, Colonial Heights city manager since 2010, has been appointed city manager for Elgin, Texas.
  • Doug Barnes, retired administrator for Spotsylvania County, has been appointed interim administrator for Stafford County.
  • Angela Clem, interim manager for the town of Woodstock, has been appointed manager there.
  • Charles Hartgrove, Ashland town manager for the past 13 years, has been appointed deputy city manager for Lynchburg.
  • Katie Nunez, Northampton County administrator for the past 11 years, has stepped down from that post.  John Andrzejewski, finance director, was appointed acting administrator.
  • Kathleen Seay, director of finance and management services for Hanover County, has been appointed deputy administrator there.
  • Ron Carlee, former city manager for Charlotte, NC, and previously manager for Arlington County, VA, has been appointed a visiting assistant professor at Old Dominion University's Strome College.

July, 2016

  • Anthony Romanello, administrator for Stafford County for the past 13 years, has been appointed deputy manager for Henrico County.
  • Rebecca (Becky) Dickson, former Goochland County administrator, has accepted a part-time, interim appointment as deputy administrator for Chesterfield County.
  • Angela Clem, assistant manager for the town of Woodstock, has been appointed interim town manager.
  • Ken Vittum, manager for the town of Pearisburg since 1988, has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2016.
  • Dan Taber, manager for the town of Dumfries for the past 5 years, resigned and announced his retirement.
  • Kathie Noe, Scott County administrator, announced her retirement effective December 31.
  • Randy Keaton, deputy executive director for the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, has been appointed Isle of Wight County administrator, effective September 1.
  • Andrew (Drew) Trivette, assistant city manager for Bristol, VA, has been appointed assistant city manager for Williamsburg, effective August 29.

June, 2016

  • Reid Wodicka, town manager for Woodstock since 2013, has been appointed assistant administrator for Bedford County, effective August 1.
  • William Kerbin, Jr., director of community development for Oneonta, NY, has been appointed town manager for Onancock, effective July 5.
  • Barry Thompson, interim town manager for Vinton since December, 2015, has been appointed manager there.
  • William Johnson, III, former Petersburg city manager, has joined the Credit Adjustment Board, Inc. as senior vice president/governmental affairs.
  • John Budesky, deputy administrator for Hanover County, has been appointed administrator for Goochland County.
  • Rebecca Layman, treasurer for the town of Middletown, has been appointed manager there.
  • Peter Huber, administrator for Pulaski County for the past 16 years, announced his retirement effective January 1, 2017.
  • Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., community development director for Danville, has been appointed deputy city manager there.
  • Sheryl Bailey, deputy administrator for Chesterfield County, announced that she is stepping down from that post.
  • Pat Murphy, town manager for Big Stone Gap, will officially retire effective June 30, but will be retained as a contract employee for three months.
  • Margaret Schmitt, HR director for the city of Lynchburg, has been appointed interim deputy city manager there.  Heather Brown, senior HR manager, has been appointed interim HR director.
  • Rickey Reese, manager for the town of Chase City since 1986, and treasurer there for 8 years prior, passed away.
  • Reese Peck, administrator for Essex County, resigned.  Pamela Smith, deputy administrator, has been appointed interim administrator there.

May, 2016

  • Brenda Reamy, town manager for Montross the past 22 years, has announced her retirement.  Patricia "Trish" Lewis has been appointed as her successor.
  • Bonnie Svrcek, deputy city manager for Lynchburg since 1999, has been appointed manager there, effective July 1st.  She succeeds Kim Payne, who is retiring on June 30.
  • Jon Lansford, interim county administrator for Alleghany County, and assistant administrator since 2007, has been appointed administrator there.
  • Steve Biggs, town manager for Clayton, NC, has been selected to succeed the retiring Barry Helms as town manager for Christiansburg, effective July 1.
  • Tom Leahy, director of public utilities and interim deputy city manager for the city of Virginia Beach, has been appointed deputy city manager there.
  • Ken Chandler, associate director for administrative services administration in the Department of Transportation for Washington, DC, has been appointed deputy city manager for Virginia Beach.
  • Joseph P. "Joe" Casey, deputy manager for Henrico County since 2013, has been appointed administrator for Chesterfield County.
  • LaVoris A. Pace, director of marketing and communications, and acting deputy manager for the city of Portsmouth has been appointed deputy city manager there.
  • Vincent E. Jones, deputy council chief of staff for the city of Richmond, has been appointed deputy manager for the city of Portsmouth.

April, 2016

  • Debbie A. Keyser, deputy administrator for Rappahannock County, has been appointed administrator there.  She succeeds the retiring John McCarthy effective May 1.
  • Ken Larking, interim city manager for Danville, has been appointed city manager there.
  • John Egertson, acting administrator for Culpeper County, has been appointed administrator there.
  • Tim Baroody, deputy administrator and economic development director for Stafford County, has been appointed city manager for Fredericksburg, effective July 1.
  • Philipp Gabathuler, senior planner with Region 2000 Local Government Council, has been appointed town manager for Appomattox.
  • Jason Purse, zoning administrator for James City County, has been appointed assistant county administrator there.
  • Scott Mills, interim deputy manager for the city of Suffolk, has been appointed deputy manager there.
  • Matt Lawless, part-time town manager for Boones Mill, has been elevated to full time status.
  • Dallin Kimble, management analyst, clerk of council, and parks coordinator for the town of Ashland, has been appointed deputy administrator for Mariposa, California.
  • Richard Cocke has been appointed town manager for Chatham.

March, 2016

  • Lee Hood Capps has been appointed inteirm town manager for Warsaw. John Slusser, town manager there for over 16 years, is retiring at the end of the month.
  • Keith Harless, a former member of the Pennington Gap town council, has been appointed town manager there.

February, 2016

  • Clarence Monday, Pittsylvania County administrator, has announced that he intends to retire effective December 31, 2016.
  • William Johnson, III, Petersburg city manager, has been terminated.

January, 2016

  • Ernie Hoch, Culpeper County administrator since May, 2015, resigned.
  • John Egertson, Culpeper County assistant administrator and planning director, has been appointed interim administrator there.
  • Jodi Miller, Williamsburg deputy city manager, has been appointed deputy manager for Durham County, North Carolina, effective February 1.
  • William (Bill) Whitley, former Gloucester County administrator and interim administrator in several localities since his retirement, has been appointed interim manager for Onancock while the manager is on temporary leave.
  • Carl Boggess, Bedford County attorney and interim administrator, has been appointed administrator there.
  • Jay Stegmaier, Chesterfield County administrator, announced his retirement, effective July 1.
  • Stephen King, deputy county administrator for Rockingham County, has been appointed administrator there, succeeding Joe Paxton, who is retiring June 30.
  • Dave Hansen, deputy city manager for Virginia Beach, has been appointed manager there.
  • Chris Martino, deputy county executive for Prince William County, has been appointed interim executive there.
  • Sandy Wanner, retired James City County administrator, has been appointed interim administrator for Isle of Wight County, effective February 1.
  • William Johnson, III, city manager for Petersburg since 2011, and the city council have begun separation negotiations.

December, 2015

  • Barry Helms, town manager for Christiansburg since 2011 and having served the town for 22 years, announced his retirement, effective June, 2016.
  • Travis Quesenberry, administrator for King George County for the past 13+ years, announced his retirement, effective December, 2016.
  • Melissa Peacor, Prince William County executive for the past 6 years and a county employee for 30 years, announced her retirement, effective January 31, 2016.
  • Barry Thompson, finance director and treasurer for the town of Vinton, has been appointed interim manager there.
  • Kim Payne, city manager for Lynchburg for 15 years, announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2016.
  • Joe Paxton, administrator for Rockingham County since 2004, has announced his retirement, effective July 31, 2016.
  • Jim Spore, who is retiring as city manager of Virginia Beach, will become president and CEO of Reinvent Hampton Roads.
  • Frank Force, city manager for Williamsburg from 1967 to 1991, passed away at the age of 90.
  • Brent Fedors, vice president and business line leader for the facilities management division of AECOM, a global infrastructure firm, has been appointed administrator for Gloucester County.
  • Edmund Giles, town manager for Chatham, has announced that he is stepping down from that post effective end of the month for health reasons.
  • Joe King, recently retired manager for the city of Danville, passed away at the age of 65.
  • Patricia (Pat) Green, deputy administrator for Tazewell County, and currently interim administrator, has been appointed administrator there.
  • Nicole Hair, planning director and zoning administrator for the town of Christiansburg, has been appointed deputy manager for the town of Pulaski.
