Request for Interest in International Fellowship Program

Showcase your communities’ innovation and excellence in local governance and citizen engagement through hosting an international fellow for up to two weeks. Additionally, your staff would have the opportunity to learn and provide technical expertise on the ground in an international community.

Since 2010, ICMA has operated a local government international fellowship program with the US Department of State. The current program focused on creating more sustainable communities and included placements of international fellows into ICMA member communities around the United States. Reciprocally, outbound US fellows spent two weeks learning about sustainability in several international locations.

ICMA is again pursuing funding to operate an international fellowship program. The program will be focused on local governance and how US communities engage citizens, work with nonprofits and other organizations to create resilient, transparent, and accountable communities. This exchange would showcase your communities’ innovation and excellence in local governance and citizen engagement through hosting an international fellow for up to two weeks. Additionally, your staff would have the opportunity to learn and provide technical expertise on the ground in an international community. If your community is interested in a reciprocal exchange, contact Lauren Crawford at lcrawford@icma.org by March 16, 2012.
