Fishers, IN Opens Art in Town Hall Gallery

On Thursday, January 12, a new art gallery opened in the Town of Fishers. Unlike any other art gallery in the area, this one has transformed a municipal building lobby.

Fishers Town Hall, located at One Municipal Drive, will be the home of a permanent art gallery that is open to the public. Art in Town Hall will feature exhibits of up to 60 works of visual art by local artists. The exhibit inside the gallery will rotate throughout the year to feature new artists' works.

Art in Town Hall is the collaboration of the Fishers Arts Council and the Town of Fishers. The art gallery will be open during the Fishers Town Hall's normal business hours and from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays during the run of the exhibitions. Admission is free and children are welcome with adult supervision.

"We are very excited to be a part of this great program that not only gives residents another opportunity to view local art, but gives local artists a venue to display their work," said Town Council Member John Weingardt.

Visitors are invited to explore the lobby of Fishers Town Hall to view the art exhibition and be introduced to the work of talented artists with a connection to the Town of Fishers. Since a new exhibit will be unveiled periodically throughout the year, a variety of artists and styles of artwork will be featured at Art in Town Hall.

Art in Town Hall officially opened on January 12, 2012, with an exhibition by award-winning local artist Pamela Newell. Specializing in impressionistic style paintings of landscapes, gardens and still life, Pam's luminous paintings most recently caught the attention of Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, who displays Pam's pastel painting, "In The Heartland," in her Statehouse office.

Pam is recognized as an Indiana Artisan and her work can also be found at the Hoosier Salon, Renaissance Fine Art and Design, the Brown County Art Guild, and in private and corporate collections.

"My objective is to tell a story, and capture a mood or a moment in time. I strive to describe only the essence of a scene leaving out unnecessary details, inviting the viewer to interpret the art through their own experience. I wish to create an emotional connection through the subject matter that resonates, and when that happens, it's magic," said Pamela Newell.

Pamela Newell's work will be on display at Art in Town Hall from January 12 - February 10, 2012. She and her husband Bruce are longtime Fishers residents.

Art in Town Hall was created to bring artists and their artwork directly to Fishers residents within the Town's center of community and heritage. Residents who are doing business at Town Hall may be surprised with the breadth and quality of art that greets them inside the building.

Art in Town Hall is presented by The Fishers Arts Council, the local organization that created the public art project, I am Piano, Play Me! last summer and Art in the Park, a juried art fair held in Fishers each September. The Fishers Arts Council was created to enrich the quality and economic vitality of the community by expanding and supporting local arts and culture. Art in Town Hall is the second recent partnership between the Town of Fishers and Fishers Arts Council. This partnership was established through a priority of the Town of Fishers to enhance art and culture in the Fishers community.
