Allen Police Chief Bill Rushing announced that for the third time in four years, Allen is ranked among the 10 safest cities in the United States. A City Crime Rankings study, published by CQPress, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc., was based on the FBI’s 2010 statistics report. The report examined more than 400 communities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, robbery, rape, burglary, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft.
Nationwide, Allen is ranked 9th overall (cities with a population of more than 75,000) and 8th in their population category (cities with a population between 75,000 and 99,999). In the CQ report, Allen was listed first in Texas, making it the safest city in Texas.
