Bob Wertz, Loudoun's Commissioner of the Revenue, announced that beginning on Monday, January 29, business owners will be able to renew and update their Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL) tax accounts online. Today, more than 17,000 business license renewals for 2007 were mailed to owners of businesses which are located in Loudoun County. This online service will give business owners a convenient new option to renew their business licenses. Business owners may still file by mail or by visiting one of the Commissioner of the Revenue's offices in Leesburg or Sterling. This service doesn't affect owners of businesses located within Loudoun's seven incorporated towns.

Commissioner Wertz stated, "My ultimate goal is to make it as hasslefree as possible for Loudoun County taxpayers to do business with myoffice and meet filing requirements. Not only is it more convenient fortaxpayers who may want to take care of business outside our normaloperating hours, it maximizes available technology to more efficientlyserve citizens."Business owners who choose to file online should visit www.loudoun.gov/cor and select the "File 2007 Business License Tax Renewal" link. To access business license account information, taxpayers will enter an account number and business owner name fromtheir tax declaration. The business account will be retrieved and changes can be submitted and the license renewed. Payment can then be made to the Treasurer using a credit card or echeck. Once paid, thelicense is mailed to the business owner; usually within ten days.Wertz acknowledged, "I want to thank the county's Department ofInformation Technology and my fine staff for contributing to makingLoudoun the first locality in the Commonwealth to provide onlinebusiness license renewals to citizens. I hope business owners andcitizens appreciate their efforts."
